Hello Eyelash Tips!

Everyone loves having long eyelashes. But some people spend tons of money on products that assist in eyelash growth, when just a few simple steps will help them achieve the long and voluminous eyelashes that they desire.

Tip #1: Invest in an eyelash curler  (I use the Motives curler shown below) that has curved rubber edges instead of square ones. This will give you a smoothly curved eyelash rather than a square edge that will make your eyelashes kink in the middle of them (super annoying).

Tip #2: Heating up the curler and then curling your eyelashes will actually make them curl better than without heating it up. I have heard of some people using a blow-dryer to get this affect, however using a blow-dryer can be extremely dangerous [to your eyelashes, eyeball, or even the skin around your eye], if the curler is not cooled down properly before hand.

So let me tell you what I do. Before you curl your eyelashes, rub the rubber back and forth for 30-45 seconds; this is doing the same thing as a blow-dryer would, just much, much safer. Then continue to curl your eyelashes – gently squeezing the curler for 10 seconds. Top with a coat of lustrafy mascara to your top and bottom lashes (if desired) and vuala! Gorgeous, long, voluminous eyelashes!!!

Below I demonstrated what my eyelashes look like before I curled them, after I curled them, and after mascara is added:

Enjoy the rest of your day… with perfectly curled eyelashes.

Hello Photoshoot!

I just received the pictures from the shoot that I was the hair & make-up artist for a couple weeks ago. It was my first photoshoot working with several models at once with many different looks. The pictures turned out absolutely amazing and I couldn’t be happier.

The photos were taken by J. Alan Paul Photography and models were styled by MB. The models were absolutely fantastic, making each pose look effortless.

And of course, I used my favorite Motives Cosmetics on each of my models.

I thought I’d share my favorites… I had many. = )

Enjoy your hopefully lazy Sunday night.

Hello Nurses!

This week is extra special to me. For those of you that don’t know, this week is National Nurses Week. There are some very important people in my life that are nurses and work extremely long shifts (12 hours, can you imagine?) to take care of people who are ill or hurt at all hours of the day. I am amazed by these people who strive to take on the challenge of becoming a Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, or Doctor of some sort. To put strangers in need before themselves at all moments of the day is absolutely incredible to me. Some of the things they put up with are beyond the most gruesome imagination, something that I could never deal with.

So nurses, I thank all of you for the hard work that you do for the rest of us. I surely know that you don’t get enough thank you’s in a day, so I thought I’d make a personal shout out to you today. And know that you are very much appreciated. Working stressfully through each day and night to keep this world alive and well.

I also want to thank the student nurses in advance for what you will do in the future. Your long hours studying will soon pay off and you will be helping the people who need you most. Keep working hard, your almost done!

My aunt, JoLynn, is a nurse in San Diego. She is someone who continues to make people happy both at home and at her job. She loves life and making the best of it. I know the people at her hospital value her skills, knowledge, and compassionate characteristics more than she’ll ever know. This person is like a sister to me and I thank her for never letting life just pass me by. She is the most thoughtful person I know and always reminds me to take a step back and appreciate and be thankful for what you have in life. And that alone means the world to me. So for that, I thank you, auntie, for all the love and joy you spread to the people around you. I cannot wait to spend time with you this summer, making memories and simply enjoying life together.

JoLynn’s roommate, Nicole, is also a nurse at the same hospital as JoLynn. Nicole works days and JoLynn works nights, meaning between the two of them, they are changing lives 24 hours of the day (Pretty legit, huh?). Nicole is an absolute beautiful person, both inside and out. She just truly wants to enjoy life and to experience all that life has to give her. She is so knowledgeable about so many things it is truly inspirational. So thank you, Nicole, for all the happiness you bring to both myself, my family, and your patients.

Nicole and JoLynn are two peas in a pod. They are similar in the sense that they both want to live up every moment in life and never take it for granted. That is a lesson we could all use a little more of.

I love and respect nurses so much. Because I know I would not be okay (or exist) without my favorite nurse in the world… my mother, Julie. My mom is my best friend. My mother is

the most amazing person I know. She is always so positive and motivational it’s inspiring. She is always challenging herself, striving to be successful. Every day I work to be just like her. My mom is incredible and she needs to know how much she is loved and cherished both as a mother and as my personal Nurse Practitioner.

I love you mom and thank you for all you do, not only for me but for the rest of the people that need you, too.

Make sure to thank the people that take care of you and sometimes even save your life.

Happy Nurses Week,

Hello Make-Up Tip #1!

So there you are, searching through your closet to find the perfect top to complete your outfit. After half your closet is on the floor, you finally found it! You quickly slip it on and as soon as you do, those deodorant marks, once again, magically appear on each side of your shirt.

I know you all have had this happen countless times before. So today I’m happy to make you aware of my new favorite product to take care of this extremely annoying issue.

Each morning after you put on your deodorant and before you put on your shirt, spray on Motives 10 Years Younger Setting Spray. This spray is also going to freeze your deodorant to 35 degrees (don’t worry, you can’t feel it), keeping it in it’s place all day long. This is also used to spray on your face after you have put on your make-up. It keeps your make-up from setting into your pores while giving you that natural glow, making you look 10 years younger (hence the name). Pretty sweet, huh?. In fact, it was a key factor in how the make-up for my wedding this past weekend continued to look so amazing hours after it had been done.

It’s like hairspray for your body; works like a charm.

Hello Weddings!

It’s a fact, I love love. And when love is most glamorous, its at weddings. I love everything about weddings. From the dress and veil to frosting on the cake, I love it all. You see true love at its finest, most perfect moment.

I was honored to be chosen as the make-up artist for my bride, Stephanie. This lady is the sweetest woman I have ever met. She is down-to-earth and just truly in love and ready to get married. So you can imagine how blessed I felt that I was going to be a part of her special day.

I started my day off bright and early at 5:00 am. Make-up and touch-ups went all through 5:00 pm. It’s safe to say that it was quite a long day. But also one of my absolute favorite days as well. I was totally in my element. It was everything that I’m about; making people feel amazing on their special day or their everyday.

And might I add, hours after their make-up had been done and the multiple tears of joy that were shed, each ladies make-up looked as if I had just done it. It was incredible.

This wedding not only proved to me how amazing Motives Cosmetics is but it also proved that I can do this, be a make-up artist.

Hello Summer!

Summer is my absolute favorite time of the year! School is done and you have nothing on your mind but the sandbar and the sun-rays. Its the time where you get to wear your new sundresses and sunglasses and top it off with your beloved oversized floppy hat. You get to show off your new bikini with your matching sandals.

Summer is the time of year where everyone is enjoying their lives with their family and friends boating on the lake. Not only do I love summer for being able to go wake-boarding and tubing, but because of the sunkissed glow you get throughout the summer months.

I love being able to wear barely any makeup, only complimenting my skin with the summer essentials.

Heres a guide to applying the perfect 5-minute summer skin face:

A light layer of Liquid Powder Mineral Foundation will feel light on your skin as well as even out your skins tone. It has SPF 15 in it so it will continually protect it from the sun. Adding a Pressed Bronzer to your cheekbones, hairline, and jawline will really help define your facial structure. Just a touch of Crème Blush added to the apples of your cheeks will give them a natural flushed look. Apply a layer of Mineral Mascara to your eyelashes to really make those eyes look away and rested. To finish, add a layer of Mineral Lip Gloss, tinted or clear, and you are ready for the rays!

Feeling natural and beautiful, all summer long.

Hello Prom!

This weekend was truly a treat. I was finally able to make it home to see my family. My uncle also graduated with his Masters from [University of Mary], so it was wonderful to have the entire family spend some quality time together.

Aside from family, I had the honor of doing one of my good friends, Lexi’s, make-up for her first prom. Lexi was beautified in Motives Cosmetics and chose to wear my dress from my senior prom. She looked absolutely stunning at [Bismarck High’s] prom.

Lexi is one of my brothers’ best friends and it has been amazing watching her grow into a beautiful young lady over the years.

And just to reminisce… : )

My weekend was relaxing, how was yours?
