This week is extra special to me. For those of you that don’t know, this week is National Nurses Week. There are some very important people in my life that are nurses and work extremely long shifts (12 hours, can you imagine?) to take care of people who are ill or hurt at all hours of the day. I am amazed by these people who strive to take on the challenge of becoming a Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, or Doctor of some sort. To put strangers in need before themselves at all moments of the day is absolutely incredible to me. Some of the things they put up with are beyond the most gruesome imagination, something that I could never deal with.
So nurses, I thank all of you for the hard work that you do for the rest of us. I surely know that you don’t get enough thank you’s in a day, so I thought I’d make a personal shout out to you today. And know that you are very much appreciated. Working stressfully through each day and night to keep this world alive and well.
I also want to thank the student nurses in advance for what you will do in the future. Your long hours studying will soon pay off and you will be helping the people who need you most. Keep working hard, your almost done!
My aunt, JoLynn, is a nurse in San Diego. She is someone who continues to make people happy both at home and at her job. She loves life and making the best of it. I know the people at her hospital value her skills, knowledge, and compassionate characteristics more than she’ll ever know. This person is like a sister to me and I thank her for never letting life just pass me by. She is the most thoughtful person I know and always reminds me to take a step back and appreciate and be thankful for what you have in life. And that alone means the world to me. So for that, I thank you, auntie, for all the love and joy you spread to the people around you. I cannot wait to spend time with you this summer, making memories and simply enjoying life together.
JoLynn’s roommate, Nicole, is also a nurse at the same hospital as JoLynn. Nicole works days and JoLynn works nights, meaning between the two of them, they are changing lives 24 hours of the day (Pretty legit, huh?). Nicole is an absolute beautiful person, both inside and out. She just truly wants to enjoy life and to experience all that life has to give her. She is so knowledgeable about so many things it is truly inspirational. So thank you, Nicole, for all the happiness you bring to both myself, my family, and your patients.
Nicole and JoLynn are two peas in a pod. They are similar in the sense that they both want to live up every moment in life and never take it for granted. That is a lesson we could all use a little more of.

I love and respect nurses so much. Because I know I would not be okay (or exist) without my favorite nurse in the world… my mother, Julie. My mom is my best friend. My mother is
the most amazing person I know. She is always so positive and motivational it’s inspiring. She is always challenging herself, striving to be successful. Every day I work to be just like her. My mom is incredible and she needs to know how much she is loved and cherished both as a mother and as my personal Nurse Practitioner.
I love you mom and thank you for all you do, not only for me but for the rest of the people that need you, too.
Make sure to thank the people that take care of you and sometimes even save your life.
Happy Nurses Week,
XO – Miss Motives
