Waving Goodbye to 2012!

Today’s post is going to be a long one, but my favorite post yet. Thinking about all the things that I have done in this past year makes me realize how much I have accomplished. As I look through the past pictures of 2012, I couldn’t be happier with the decisions I made, the things I did, and the life I’ve lived. I am so pleased with my life and so proud of who I have grown into. I’m happy to share with you my highlights of the past year.

Take a walk with me down memory lane of 2012:

I experienced my first State Dance Competition as a Dance Coach of the Fargo North Spartacas with Amy.

Attended my first Market America World Conference in Miami, Florida. It was also my first time in Miami. I was lucky enough to meet my idols Loren Ridinger, the creator of Motives Cosmetics and La La Anthony during the convention as well. My mom and I both went to the convention and we got to meet her idol, Lydia Martinez.

I finally started my very own blog. It was a goal of mine for such a long time and I am so happy I went with it. It has been a wonderful addition to my life.

I was honored enough to be chosen as the makeup artist for a brides wedding. This was my first wedding and I was so happy with the end results of each person’s makeup.

My boyfriend and I were the lucky winners of free photo shoot by Carly Loves Amos Photography. I am STILL ecstatic about how they turned out. I couldn’t be happier.

My brother and boyfriend were wonderful enough to drive with me across the country to move from North Dakota to San Diego, for the summer. It was the best road trip I have ever taken. They stayed for a week and helped me settle into my new surroundings.

I was surprised at my job Everything But Water, a designer swimwear company, with balloons and edible flowers for my birthday! All the way from ND!

I got to spend my 21st birthday in San Diego, California. We spent the day driving to Temecula, also known as wine country to have my first legal drink as well as my first time at winery. It was amazing… and it was 9:00 in the morning.

We then went to a outdoor spring spa in Corona, California. It was seriously the best birthday ever.

And then to top my golden birthday off, (21st birthday on June 21st), my aunt and her roommate threw a backyard party for me serving me my favorite food in the entire world, crab.

My birthday didn’t end on the 21st. On that Saturday, my aunt threw me a 90’s pub crawl in Pacific Beach in San Diego. She invited all of her friends and it was such a blast. I dressed up as Scary Spice, my aunt dressed up as Marge Simpson, and my aunt’s roommate dressed up as a Baywatch Babe. And I got to meet Nate from the Real World San Diego. Seriously – it was too much fun. 🙂

While in San Diego, I got to make some amazing connections, especially ones in the cosmetic and wedding industry. I was chosen as a model for some inspiration shoots. They were such a blast.

This year, my favorite little person in the entire world was born, Austin James Friesz. He is fighting for his life, yet smiles more than anyone I know. I love you Austie, always praying and thinking of you.

I attended my first Market America International Convention in Greensboro, North Carolina. This time was even more special because I was able to spend it with not just my mom, but two of my business partners as well. I also got to meet Anchal Joseph from America’s Next Top Model. She was such a sweetheart.

As many of you know, I’ve been doing a lot of modeling throughout the year. I’ve been working a lot with E-Vanity, and other wedding events in the area. Very happy about that and am excited to continue modeling in 2013.

Hello Instagram!

The wait is over for me… I have finally upgraded from a non-existing Blackberry to the newest edition of the iPhone, the iPhone 5. I am so unbelievably in love with it, it’s ridiculous. Coming from a Blackberry, really anything at this point will be mind-blowing. But having plenty of Mac products, I have had my heart set on this phone for ages (or just since my last upgrade). Phones these days are insane, the things they can do is unreal. It’s so little and thin, yet it works so quickly and at the blink of an eye I have the answer to any question that I could possibly think of. Pure amazement.

Not only have been anxiously and impatiently awaiting my new iPhone, but I have been dying to get on Instagram. And today I am happy to announce that this girl is finally on Instagram! I find Instagram to be such a fun and creative app, I could seriously look at it for hours. It’s even more addicting to me than Pinterest!

Follow me @jdevoraux

Can’t wait to hear from you!

Hello ‘SU TV, Meet Market America!

I am SO ecstatic to show you all one of my favorite moments of being a Market America business owner so far. My good friend & business partner, Emmalee and myself were selected for an interview by our campus’ tv station on what it is like to be young entrepreneurs and what Market America is all about. We was so happy to share with her what we do, how we change lives, and how others can get involved.

Below is the final interview:

Drag to 8 minutes and 55 seconds

I have never been happier in my life. I have finally found my niche and am able to help others in all aspects of their lives, which is what I’ve always truly wanted to do. I am in charge of my own success and I promise you that I am on my way to the top. I’m putting the pedal to the metal and I’m not looking back.

Feeling inspired. Feeling blessed.

Hello Home, Sweet, Home!

I’ve been in California for a little over a month, and I can tell you that I’ve never been more proud than to tell everyone where I’m from. I realize how much being raised in North Dakota has transformed me into the person I am today. I have morals and goals, an amazing work ethic to go along with great discipline. North Dakota has made me into a sweet young lady, but one that doesn’t take disrespect from anyone. I am so blessed to be from North Dakota, and that’s not something everything North Dakotan goes through.

I’ve always wanted to be surrounded by the palm trees and the beaches, and I’m not going to lie, California is like paradise. But I’ve grown to appreciate the beauty of my home. The beautiful North Dakota blue skies, green, green grasses, spotted with decorative golden hay bails.

It’s been a wonderful experience here in California, but I can tell you that I cannot wait to come home.

So with that being said… Never forget where you came from no matter where life takes you. Because where you came from is who you are.

Hello San Diego!

I’m back!!! 2 weeks ago my brother and boyfriend decided to take the journey of driving to California with me. It took us 2 full days, 8 states, and one last minute gorgeous hotel room (we lucked out big time) to get us here. We had a wonderful vacation the 3 of us, along with my new roommates (family members) running around this crazy city they call San Diego.

Since they’ve left, I’ve been working hard to get myself all settled into this new place of which I absolutely love so far. It’s been such a change of pace from North Dakota, but a nice one at that. I just thought I’d share some of the exciting times we had during our ‘vk’.

Acai bowl… my new favorite. Super delicious – fruit and granola topped with no guilt. Mmm mmm.

Surf Monkey!!

Mount Soledad

In action on the rollercoaster, ha.

Check back to see more of the exciting experiences I have during the summer; = )

Hello Nurses!

This week is extra special to me. For those of you that don’t know, this week is National Nurses Week. There are some very important people in my life that are nurses and work extremely long shifts (12 hours, can you imagine?) to take care of people who are ill or hurt at all hours of the day. I am amazed by these people who strive to take on the challenge of becoming a Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, or Doctor of some sort. To put strangers in need before themselves at all moments of the day is absolutely incredible to me. Some of the things they put up with are beyond the most gruesome imagination, something that I could never deal with.

So nurses, I thank all of you for the hard work that you do for the rest of us. I surely know that you don’t get enough thank you’s in a day, so I thought I’d make a personal shout out to you today. And know that you are very much appreciated. Working stressfully through each day and night to keep this world alive and well.

I also want to thank the student nurses in advance for what you will do in the future. Your long hours studying will soon pay off and you will be helping the people who need you most. Keep working hard, your almost done!

My aunt, JoLynn, is a nurse in San Diego. She is someone who continues to make people happy both at home and at her job. She loves life and making the best of it. I know the people at her hospital value her skills, knowledge, and compassionate characteristics more than she’ll ever know. This person is like a sister to me and I thank her for never letting life just pass me by. She is the most thoughtful person I know and always reminds me to take a step back and appreciate and be thankful for what you have in life. And that alone means the world to me. So for that, I thank you, auntie, for all the love and joy you spread to the people around you. I cannot wait to spend time with you this summer, making memories and simply enjoying life together.

JoLynn’s roommate, Nicole, is also a nurse at the same hospital as JoLynn. Nicole works days and JoLynn works nights, meaning between the two of them, they are changing lives 24 hours of the day (Pretty legit, huh?). Nicole is an absolute beautiful person, both inside and out. She just truly wants to enjoy life and to experience all that life has to give her. She is so knowledgeable about so many things it is truly inspirational. So thank you, Nicole, for all the happiness you bring to both myself, my family, and your patients.

Nicole and JoLynn are two peas in a pod. They are similar in the sense that they both want to live up every moment in life and never take it for granted. That is a lesson we could all use a little more of.

I love and respect nurses so much. Because I know I would not be okay (or exist) without my favorite nurse in the world… my mother, Julie. My mom is my best friend. My mother is

the most amazing person I know. She is always so positive and motivational it’s inspiring. She is always challenging herself, striving to be successful. Every day I work to be just like her. My mom is incredible and she needs to know how much she is loved and cherished both as a mother and as my personal Nurse Practitioner.

I love you mom and thank you for all you do, not only for me but for the rest of the people that need you, too.

Make sure to thank the people that take care of you and sometimes even save your life.

Happy Nurses Week,

XO – Miss Motives
